Acceptance of these terms

By using She Builds (the “Publication”) you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please don’t use the site. We may update these Terms from time to time; continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

What we are

She Builds is an independent editorial publication and community for women working across tech. We publish articles, podcasts, and event information. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of the companies, products, or communities we cover.

Accounts

Reading, subscribing to, and contributing to the Publication don’t require an account. Contributors work directly with our editors, who handle drafting, editing, and publishing on their behalf.

Contributor terms

These additional terms apply if you write or record for the Publication.

Originality. You confirm that the work you submit is your original creation, that you hold the necessary rights to publish it, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights.

Ownership. You retain copyright in your work. By submitting it for publication, you grant She Builds a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish, display, distribute, translate, and promote your work in connection with the Publication and our marketing channels. You may republish your work elsewhere after it has run with us, with a courtesy reference to She Builds where reasonable.

Editorial control. Our editors may copy-edit your work, request revisions, decline to publish, or unpublish a piece if circumstances require. We will not materially change the meaning of your work without your agreement.

Disclosures. You agree to disclose any material conflicts of interest — for example, when writing about a vendor you work for or hold equity in.

Acceptable use

When using the Publication, you agree not to:

• Use the site or its content for unlawful purposes;
• Scrape, mirror, or republish substantial portions of the Publication without permission;
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the site, our systems, or other users’ accounts;
• Submit content that is defamatory, harassing, hateful, infringing, or otherwise unlawful;
• Use She Builds to send spam, malware, or unsolicited commercial communications.

Our intellectual property

The She Builds name, logo, and the design of the site are the property of She Builds. The compilation and curation of the Publication, as well as content created by our editorial team, is protected by copyright and other laws. Individual articles and episodes remain the property of their authors.

Third-party content and links

The Publication may link to third-party websites or include third-party content (for example, embedded podcast players or image credits to Unsplash photographers). We are not responsible for the accuracy, policies, or practices of those third parties.

Disclaimers

The Publication is provided “as is” and “as available.” While we work hard to publish accurate and useful material, the views expressed are those of the individual authors and not legal, financial, or professional advice. We make no warranty that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, She Builds and its editors, contributors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Publication. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms is limited to the amount you have paid us in the past twelve months (which is, for most readers, nothing).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold She Builds harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from content you submit, your use of the Publication in violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate access — including contributor accounts — at any time for material violation of these Terms or applicable law. You may stop using the Publication at any time and request deletion of your account by writing to us.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which She Builds is principally based, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction unless required otherwise by law.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify newsletter subscribers and active contributors by email.
